According to police, two people have died in a south Dallas car accident caused by a wrong-way driver on Interstate 20.

Police responded to the scene of the crash on eastbound I-20 near the I-35E interchange just after 4:00 a.m.

Reports show that the driver of a white Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck was traveling the wrong way in the eastbound lanes of I-20 when he collided head-on with a Lexus IS 250 near the I-35E interchange.

The driver of the black Lexus sedan, identified as 30-year-old Erica Sylvia, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Silverado, identified as 35-year-old Julio Gonzalez Sanchez, was hospitalized in critical condition, but later died of his injuries. A third vehicle (a Dodge Ram pickup truck) was reportedly struck by debris from the collision, but no other injuries were reported.

Detectives say they’re unsure exactly how long the driver of the truck was traveling the wrong direction, and are still trying to determine where he entered the freeway. The investigation is ongoing.
